Size does matter.
During the phone revolution, an idea was circling around people, namely to combine phones with different interesting services, namely Internet (Praise Bill Gates), keeping music on it and stuff similar to that. Well, some people decided to make some money off of this idea, and this is how the first smart phone, the IMB Simon, came about. This invention was great, combining texting and calling and even having a touch screen on it, what could possibly be wrong with such a wonderful device, especially for 1993’s? Well, the first problem that people were facing was carrying the thing. The experience was similar to that of carrying a heavy brick in your back pocket at all times, imagine trying to get it out in time to make a phone call, your right hand will be bigger then Schwarzenegger's in his early years. Next problem, and probably the one that actually matters, the phone costed 899$. Now, if it were a normal smart phone, something that you see every day when you walk around the street, and it was in 1993, then yes, maybe, but to pay for a brick that can only call, text and give you cancer? You are better off buying a normal phone, which would still cost you about a hundred dollars, but won’t make you poor in one day. There were a lot of small attempts to make a good smart phone, some, like the blackberry model, were actually pretty successful, but all fell short to the Apple’s Iphone in 2004. This was the true turning point, and made all the smart phones, cell phones and the like the standard, which everyone, even now seems to neglect, and make ridiculous cell phones that people simply don’t buy, or buy because they are low on funds.
